Starting in 2023, I have done several illustrations for the tabletop wargame/RPG METALLURGENT, depicting various NPC mecha (GPs - General Production Units) and vehicles, including all of the vehicles for the Greek manufacturer, Hermes Hoverworks. The game is set in an alternate 1990s Cold War world, in the midst of dramatic climate & political collapse.
The GPs are based on the design language of existing Metallurgent mechs & real world military equipment (the Skała and Głaz are in-universe Polish designs, while the Volcano is produced by a Japanese conglomerate with Soviet tech). The Greek designs incorporate a lot more of my own sensibilities. Without any real 20th century indigenous Greek ship or vehicle designs to draw from, I took inspiration from Byzantine architecture and triremes for forms. I envisioned a lot of these to incorporate a mix of Western & Eastern Bloc technologies, given the geopolitical position of Greece in and out of the setting.
Several of these designs have since been illustrated by other artists on the project, which I'm always thrilled to see.
